David Oyelowo, Rachel Brosnahan, Cynthia Erivo to Star in Othello Film

David Oyelowo, Rachel Brosnahan, and Cynthia Erivo will star in a new film adaptation of Shakespeare’s Othello, with Oyelowo directing and playing the title role.

Brosnahan will play Desdemona and Erivo will play Emilia. Further casting has not been revealed for the film.

Oyelowo and Brosnahan played Othello and Emilia in a 2016 off-Broadway production of Othello at New York Theatre Workshop. Like that revival, which Sam Gold staged, the film is spearheaded by Barbara Broccoli.

Othello will shoot in the autumn of 2026 in Doha, Qatar.
