Corey Hawkins Joins In the Heights Film Cast

Corey Hawkins will take on the role of Benny in the upcoming film adaptation of Lin-Manuel Miranda and Quiara Alegría Hudes's Tony-winning musical In the Heights. Jon M. Chu directs the film, scheduled for release on June 26, 2020.
Hawkins, a Tony nominee for Six Degrees of Separation, joins Anthony Ramos, who will play Usnavi. Additional casting is still to be announced.
Anthony Bregman, Mara Jacobs, Scott Sanders, and Miranda are producing. According to Deadline, the script will be penned by Marc Klein.
In the Heights won the 2008 Tony Awards for Best Musical, Best Music and Lyrics (Miranda), Best Choreography (Andy Blankenbuehler), and Best Orchestrations (Alex Lacamoire and Bill Sherman). The original cast recording won the 2008 Grammy Award for Best Musical Show Album.
