The new comedy starts its run tonight.
Signature Theatre's presentation of Cake Off starts performances tonight.
The 50th annual Millberry Cake Off takes place on live TV and pits countless bakers against each other, including home bakers Paul and Rita. At stake is a million dollars. As the competition progresses, their rivalry explodes into an all-out kitchen brawl that can have only one winner when the timer dings.
The show is written by Julia Jordan and Sheri Wilner, with music and lyrics by Adam Gwon. Joe Calarco directs the cast, which features Sherri L. Edelen as Rita Gaw, Todd Buonopane as Paul Hubbard, Jamie Smithson as Jack Devault, and Ian Berlin as Wyatt/Sweetie Boy.
"Cake Off is hilarious and also fearless in its exploration of gender politics," said Calarco. "I've been fortunate enough to work with Julia Jordan and Adam Gwon numerous times and have known Sheri Wilner for many years, so I couldn't be more excited for this collaboration.
The creative team includes Andrea Grody (musical director), R. Lee Kennedy (lighting design), Jason Sherwood (set design), Frank Labovitz (costume design), Lane Elms (sound design), and Julie Meyer (stage manager).
Performances will run through November 22.
