Broadway's A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum Revival Postponed

The much-rumored spring Broadway revival of A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, which was expected to star Tony winner James Corden, has been officially postponed. Corden will be taking over for Craig Ferguson as the host of CBS' The Late Late Show.

"Despite the total commitment from Stephen Sondheim, our director, Alex Timbers and our entire creative team, the producers all agreed that time was beginning to run out to cast and produce A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum this spring in the way we wanted," the revival's producers said in a statement via spokesperson Chris Boneau.

"While we are disappointed, we have decided to postpone the production this season. In fairness to our friends at the Nederlander Organization who have remained staunchly supportive, we have agreed to release the theatre they were holding for us so another show can open in this busy Spring 2015 season."

Stephen Sondheim, Burt Shevelove, and Larry Gelbart's musical is inspired by the farces of the Roman playwright Plautus and features classic Sondheim songs including "Comedy Tonight," "Lovely," and "Everybody Ought to Have a Maid." The musical was last on Broadway in 1996, starring Nathan Lane in the Pseudolus role.
