The Broadway drama is written by Danai Gurira.
Music superstar Bono joined Lupita Nyong'o and the cast of Broadway's Eclipsed on April 30 to launch the first in a weeklong series of dedications to the abducted and still missing 219 schoolgirls of Chibok, Northern Nigeria.
In a brief speech, Bono read aloud the names of two of the girls abducted from the Chibok School by the Boko Haram in April 2014, an international tragedy that spawned the #BringBackOurGirls campaign.
Written by Danai Gurira and directed by Liesl Tommy, Eclipsed is a look at the Liberian Civil War from the perspective of women held captive by a Liberian rebel officer. With the arrival of a new woman who can read, and the return of an old one who can kill, their possibilities are quickly transformed. Oscar winner Nyong'o stars alongside Pascale Armand, Akosua Busia, Zainab Jah, and Saycon Sengbloh.
