An initial lineup of performers has been announced for the La MaMa 50 Block Party, to be held on Sunday October 16 from 2-6pm on East 4th Street (between the Bowery and Second Avenue). The event will culminate with the co-naming of the block as “Ellen Stewart Way,” a tribute to the founder and artistic director of the organization who passed away earlier this year.
The celebration will kickoff the 50th anniversary season for La MaMa E.T.C. and feature appearances by Blue Man Group, Silver Cloud Singers, Bad Buka, the dance troupe Pua Ali’i ‘Ilima o Nuioka, Middle Collegiate Gospel Choir, Circus Amok, DJ Rabbi Darkside, Carmelita Tropicana, Heather Christian, Nicky Paraiso, and Douglas Dunn & Dancers. Additional participants will be announced shortly.
The event will also feature food, puppet and mask-making, and free tours of the La MaMa Archive and Stewart’s private collection will be offered.
