Kelly Bishop and Beth Fowler are among the cast members of Paper Mill Playhouse’s production of Steel Magnolias, to be presented March 5-April 6, with an opening set for March 9. Karen Carpenter will direct.
Robert Harling’s comedy is set in a Southern beauty salon, where six very different women come together to share their secrets and bare their souls, throwing in a little neighborly gossip for good measure.
The cast will also include Charlotte Booker (Truvy Jones), Monique Fowler (M’Lynn Eatenton), Kelly Sullivan (Shelby Eatenton-Latcherie), and Kate Wetherhead (Annelle Dupuy-Desoto). The design team will include Hugh Landwehr (set), David Murin (costumes), Jeff Croiter (lighting), and Randy Hansen (sound).
Bishop, who will play Clairee Belcher, won the Tony and Drama Desk for her portrayal of Sheila in A Chorus Line. Additional Broadway credits include Six Degrees of Separation, Proposals, The Last Night of Ballyhoo, and Bus Stop.
Fowler, who will portray Ouiser Boudreaux, received Tony nominations for her work in The Boy From Oz and Sweeney Todd, and her additional Main Stem credits include Inherit the Wind and Beauty and the Beast.
