On Thursday, November 15, the company of Broadway’s Grace celebrated star Ed Asner’s 83rd birthday. (Asner noted the numbers on the cake were “reversed.” It’s tough approaching 40.) Friends favorite David Schwimmer joined Grace star Paul Rudd and Oscar nominee Griffin Dunne backstage to get in on the occasion at the Cort Theatre, or at least get in on the cake. Which there was plenty of. Asner, who’s a hell of a guy, was happy sharing. Here’s wishing you a 38th birthday, Ed, and many more.
Written by Craig Wright and directed by Dexter Bullard, Grace follows the exploits of a young couple (played by Rudd and Keith Arrington) as they attempt to open a chain of Gospel motels in Florida. The show also stars Asner along with Oscar nominee and stage veteran Michael Shannon (Bug).
