Oscar-nominee Bette Midler and director Mark Rydell will participate in an onstage discussion following the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’ 30th anniversary screening of The Rose, to be held at the Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills on September 25.
The Rose follows singer Mary Rose Foster (Midler) through the highs and lows of her final tour. Midler earned her first Academy Award nomination for Actress in a Leading Role for her work in the movie. Frederic Forrest also received an Oscar nomination for Actor in a Supporting Role.
Midler made her Broadway debut as Tzeitel in the original Broadway production of Fiddler on the Roof. Subsequently, she appeared on Broadway in concerts such as Bette! Divine Madness. In 1974, she was awarded a Special Tony Award in 1974 for, “adding luster to the Broadway season.”
