Streisand would love to star in the film, she revealed.
Legendary actress and singer Barbra Streisand is still hoping to get a film remake of Gypsy off the ground. The Oscar, Emmy, Grammy, and Tony winner said so herself at a recent town hall discussion with the Sirius/XM radio station.
"If it ever gets made…I see every frame of it," Streisand said during the talk. "I think it's possibly gonna happen."
Reports of Streisand's involvement with another film version of the classic Jule Styne, Stephen Sondheim, and Arthur Laurents musical have been swirling for a number of years. Richard LaGravenese (the upcoming Last 5 Years film) is expected to adapt the musical for the screen, after Downton Abbey creator Julian Fellowes dropped out of the project.
Streisand herself would like to play Rose, as well. "I think it would be a nice bookend to Funny Girl," she said.
