The festival will showcase Indigenous artists from Australia, New Zealand, Canada, and Minneapolis.

La MaMa, in association with Spiderwoman Theater, presents the nine-day Global Indigenous Theatre Festival, produced in collaboration with Loose Change Productions, running October 30-November 7.
Artists from Australia, New Zealand, Canada, and Minneapolis are coming to New York to celebrate 50 years of Spiderwoman Theater. Performances take place at both the Ellen Stewart Theatre and the Downstairs Theatre at La MaMa.
The festival opens with Kōpū (Oct 30-Nov 1) from the Aotearoa – New Zealand-based company Te Pou Theatre, a kaupapa Māori performing arts company. The wāhine of Kōpū weave live music, performance, poetry, and poi through an honest account of their femininity on their own terms.
Minneapolis-based Ikidowin Theater Ensemble’s Invisible Shadows (Oct 30-Nov 1), written by Sharon Day and directed by Sir Curtis Kirby, depicts the real-life struggles of urban Indigenous youth finding their culture amidst an opioid epidemic.
The festival also includes Maayuma li Mubirr (Healing Scars) (Nov 4-6) from Australia’s Moogahlin Performing Arts, All My R(el)ations (Nov 4–6) from Ontario, Canada’s Aanmitaagzi, and a 50th Anniversary Gala (November 7) celebrating the legacy of Spiderwoman Theater.
