Andrew Lloyd Webber Gets His EGOT With Jesus Christ Superstar Live in Concert

On September 9, NBC's Jesus Christ Superstar Live in Concert won a 2018 Emmy Award in the Outstanding Variety Special (Live) category, propelling composer Andrew Lloyd Webber onto a list of artists who have achieved EGOT status, receiving Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony Awards.
Lyricist Tim Rice and star John Legend also received Emmys for Jesus Christ Superstar Live in Concert, making the artists new EGOT recipients as well. Jesus Christ Superstar Live in Concert received 13 Emmy nominations. The remainder of the 70th Annual Emmy Awards winners will be announced on Monday, September 17, on NBC.
In a statement, Lloyd Webber said, "I'm honored that the Television Academy recognized this wonderful production of Superstar. While I celebrate this award with my colleagues especially my dear friend Tim Rice, we would not be here without the guidance of Craig Zadan whose recent passing we continue to mourn." Producer Craig Zadan died unexpectedly last month.
The Emmy joins a host of accolades Lloyd Webber has won including Grammys for Cats and Evita; an Oscar for the 1996 Best Song for "You Must Love Me" from Evita; and Tonys for Evita, Cats, The Phantom of the Opera, and Sunset Boulevard.
