Irish Repertory Theatre has announced four productions for its 2026 fall season.

First up is Eugene O’Neill’s The Hairy Ape directed by Ciarán O’Reilly, running September 25-November 15, with an official opening on October 4, on the Francis J. Greenburger Mainstage. Originally produced in 1922, The Hairy Ape tells the story of a dark-souled, brutish ship laborer known as Yank. When the beautiful, spoiled daughter of the ship’s owner visits the engine room for a thrill, she is at once repulsed and terrified by Yank.

The production will feature set design by Charlie Corcoran, lighting design by Michael Gottlieb, sound design by Florian Staab, original music by Ryan Rumery, costume design by Orla Long, and properties by Nicole Rozanski. The cast will be announced at a later date.

The season continues with The Good Thief by Conor McPherson, presented in association with Two River Theater. The Good Thief will star Tony Award nominee Christopher Fitzgerald and run November 7-December 13, with opening night set for November 12, in the W. Scott McLucas Studio Theatre. Justin Waldman directs the one-man play in the form of a confession.

The Good Thief will feature set design by Wilson Chin, costume design by Jess Goldstein, lighting design by Jen Leno, and sound design by Drew Levy.

The season also includes the return of Irish Repertory Theatre’s production of The Dead, 1904—an immersive adaptation of James Joyce’s classic story “The Dead,” adapted by Pulitzer Prize-winning Irish poet Paul Muldoon and novelist Jean Hanff Korelitz. Directed by Ciarán O’Reilly, it runs November 21-January 3, 2027, with an opening night on November 24, at the American Irish Historical Society.

The Dead, 1904 is staged for an audience of 54 per night and includes a holiday meal, inspired by descriptions of the feast in Joyce’s story, created by Great Performances. The full cast and creative team will be announced at a later date.

Finally, the 2026 fall season will also include a holiday production, to be announced at a later date.
