An American in Paris Will End Its Broadway Run

Broadway's An American in Paris will end its run on January 1, 2017, producers announced tonight. By closing, the musical will have played 29 previews and 719 regular performances at the Palace Theatre. The production began previews Mar 13, 2015 and opened April 12, 2015.
Winner of four 2015 Tony Awards, An American in Paris is directed and choreographed by Christopher Wheeldon. Inspired by the Academy Award-winning film, the musical features a book by Craig Lucas and a score of George and Ira Gershwin's iconic tunes including "I Got Rhythm," "'S Wonderful," and "They Can't Take That Away From Me." The story follows a young American soldier and a beautiful French girl in "a timeless story of love in a city rebuilding from the heartbreak of World War II."
As previously announced, An American in Paris is set for both a national tour and London production. The tour, which will kick off in Boston in October, will star Garen Scribner, currently playing Jerry Mulligan in the Broadway production, as well as Sara Esty, who plays Lise Dassin at various performances on Broadway.
The West End production will open at the Dominion Theatre in March 2017. The Broadway production's original stars Robert Fairchild and Leanne Cope will reprise their Tony-nominated performances as Jerry Mulligan and Lise Dassin.
