The 2011 MAC Awards, honoring the best of cabaret, comedy, and jazz, were presented in a ceremony on Tuesday, May 10 at B.B. King Blues Club & Grill. Christine Pedi hosted the ceremony.
The winners include Sarah Rice, who won in the Female Vocalist category, Kevin Dozier, who won at best Male Vocalist, Julie Reyburn, Major Artist winner, and Marilyn Maye, who took home the Celebrity Artist prize. In male and female debut categories, the winners are, respectively, Sean Harkness and Liz Lark Brown.
Among the other 2011 MAC Award winners are Amy Wolk (Comedy/Musical Comedy Performer Female) Adelmo Guidarelli (Comedy/Musical Comedy Performer Male), Scott Coulter, Steve Ray Watkins and Lennie Watts (Duo/Group), and Raissa Katona Bennett (Host/Variety Show/Series or Open Mic).
In addition, Cabaret Cares received the award for best Variety Productions/Recording Series, “Christmas in Michigan,” by Mary Liz McNamara, was named best special musical material, and the best recording prize was received by Karen Oberlin for Live at the Algonquin – Songs of Frank Loesser.
Special awards were also presented to Annie Ross and Marianne Challis.
