Producer Mike Bosner has announced that the new musical 10 Things I Hate About You is coming to Broadway, which preview performances scheduled to begin exactly a year from today, on August 17, 2027. The theater has not been announced.

As previously reported, the musical features songs by Carly Rae Jepsen and Ethan Gruska, and a book by Lena Dunham and Jessica Huang. Christopher Wheeldon directs and choreographs. Tom Kitt will provide music supervision, arrangements, and orchestrations.

Wheeldon helmed the currently running Broadway hit MJ. Jepsen is the singer-songwriter behind “Call Me Maybe,” whose new album is slated to be released on September 18. Dunham is best known for writing the HBO series Girls.

The musical is based on the 1999 teen comedy starring Julia Stiles and Heath Ledger, which is itself based on Shakespeare’s The Taming of the Shrew. It’s about new student Cameron James, who really wants to go out with Bianca Stratford and attempts to get bad boy Patrick Verona to date Bianca’s antisocial sister Kat in order to comply with their father’s strict rules about dating.

Casting and further members of the creative team will be revealed at a later date.

10 Things I Hate About You is produced by special arrangement with Buena Vista Theatrical.
