Barrymore, a film adaptation of William Luce’s play in which Christopher Plummer recreates his Tony Award-winning role as actor John Barrymore, will receive a theatrical release in New York and Los Angeles on November 15.

The film, which has been directed and adapted by Érik Canuel, will be released in other cities throughout 2012 and 2013.

The movie is set in 1942 as Barrymore looks back on his life while in an old theater rehearsing for a backer’s audition to raise money for a revival of his 1920 Broadway triumph in Richard III.

Plummer also received a Tony Award for his work in Cyrano and has been nominated for several other performances, including King Lear and Inherit the Wind. He recently won the Academy Award for his work in Beginners.
