Applications Sought for "Marymount at the York" Musical Theater Intensive

The second annual musical theater intensive “Marymount at the York Theatre” will be held from May 23 through June 27 at the York Theatre at Citigroup Center (619 Lexington Avenue at 54th Street). For this endeavor, the liberal arts college Marymount Manhattan partners with Off-Broadway’s York Theatre Company in offering an intensive training opportunity for individuals between the ages of 18 and 27.

Participants will explore and perform new musical theater compositions by emerging writers whose work has been featured at the York. Seminars with musical theater professionals are a major feature of the program. Students will have the opportunity to see musicals on and off Broadway and to perform in the Oscar Hammerstein Award gala dinner, given annually by the York Company. The intensive also includes daily structured classes in dance and performance technique. The intensive will culminate with the presentation of an original musical revue on stage at the York.

The cost of the program is $2150 (non-credit). Students may obtain housing in a New York City dormitory for an additional fee by visiting www.studenthousing.org (not affiliated with Marymount). There is also some housing available at the Vanderbilt Y for $25 a night.

Applications are due by April 8, 2005. They should be sent to Patricia Simon, Musical Theatre Intensive, Department of Theatre Arts, Marymount Manhattan College, 221 E. 71st Street, New York, NY 10021. Include a photo, résumé, and video or audio tape of the student singing an up-tempo selection and a ballad from the music theater repertoire, along with contact information in the form of an e-mail address or postal address and phone number. Notifications of acceptance will be e-mailed by April 19. For more details, visit www.yorktheatre.org.
