Aaron Sorkin to Write and Direct Film Version of Andrew Young’s The Politician

Playwright Aaron Sorkin will direct and write the screenplay for a film based on Andrew Young’s The Politician, which details former presidential candidate John Edwards’ extramarital affair with Rielle Hunter, according to published reports.

Sorkin’s plays include A Few Good Men, which will be revived on Broadway later this season in a production directed by David Esbjornson, and The Farnsworth Invention. He created the acclaimed TV series The West Wing, Sports Night and Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip.

He most recently wrote the screenplay for David Fincher’s The Social Network, which will open the New York Film Festival before its commercial release this fall. His other films include Charlie Wilson’s War, The American President, and Malice.
