Sheldon Epps to Direct Sleepless in Seattle's Pasadena Debut
The Pasadena Playhouse Artistic Director replaces Lonny Price in advance of the new tuner's Spring 2013 opening.
The long-awaited musical adaptation of Sleepless in Seattle will make its debut this spring, with Pasadena Playhouse artistic director Sheldon Epps at the helm. Epps (Baby It's You!) replaces the previously announced Lonny Price (110 in the Shade). The new tuner will play May 24 through June 23, with an opening set for June 2.
Sleepless in Seattle is based on the 1993 film by prolific stage, screen and essay writer Nora Ephron (You've Got Mail), which is based on the 1957 film An Affair to Remember. The musical has a book written by Jeff Arch (of the Sleepless film), music by Ben Toth (Liberal Arts) and lyrics by Sam Forman (F#@KING UP EVERYTHING).
Sleepless in Seattle tells the story of Sam, a widower and a single father whose son Jonah calls into a talk radio show to tell them of his father's love problems. Sam then gets on the phone and women across the country fall in love with him, sending love letters to the anonymous "Sleepless in Seattle", including Annie who lives in Baltimore. Believing they are meant to be together, Annie sets out for Seattle to meet Sam, who, meanwhile, contends with an onslaught of letters from available women equally touched by his phone call.
Casting for the production will be announced at a later date.
