Northlight Theatre has announced the final production in its 35th anniversary season: the world premiere of Randal Myler and Dan Wheetman’s Low Down Dirty Blues, to run May 27-July 3, 2010, with an opening set for June 5. Myler will direct, with musical direction by Wheetman. The production will feature two-time Jeff Award winner Mississippi Charles Bevel.

This musical uses the Blues to look at life and sex in all it’s fascinating and painful expressions. Myler and Wheetman previously co-created It Ain’t Nothin’ But the Blues — for which they received a Tony nomination for Best Book of a Musical — and Fire on the Mountain.

As previously announced, Northlight’s 2009-2010 season will also include Roger Bean’s pop musical, The Marvelous Wonderettes (September 17-October 25); Stephen Temperley’s comedic musical tribute, Souvenir (November 12-December 20); Clifford Odets’ Depression-era classic Awake and Sing (January 21-February 28) directed by Amy Morton and featuring Rondi Reed and Mike Nussbaum; and Hugh Leonard’s Irish drama, A Life (March 18-April 25) directed by BJ Jones, starring John Mahoney.
