Broadway League Program to Provide $10 Tickets to New York Students
Broadway Bridges aims to get every New York City public high school student into a Broadway show before graduation.
The Broadway League, with the support of the New York City Department of Education, has launched the first full year of the new program Broadway Bridges, dedicated to giving every N.Y.C. public high school student the opportunity to see a Broadway show before graduating.
Offered to students throughout the five boroughs, Broadway Bridges provides $10 tickets to 10th graders. During the winter 2017 pilot program, more than 1,100 students and chaperones saw shows, including On Your Feet!, Come From Away, and Wicked. The upcoming fall cycle will include The Band's Visit, Miss Saigon, and A Bronx Tale — The Musical, among others. More shows will be added in the spring.
Broadway Bridges expects to bring 7,500 10th-grade students to a show in the 2017-18 Broadway season. The total will increase to 17,500 the following season, with an expected cumulative total of 25,000 students through the end of 2019.
