Broadway's Anastasia Musical Unveils Its Artwork
The new show is based on the 1997 animated film.
Promotional artwork has been revealed for Broadway's upcoming production of the new musical Anastasia, which will begin previews on March 23 and open on Broadway on April 24 at the Broadhurst Theatre.
Christy Altomare, Derek Klena, John Bolton, and Caroline O'Connor, who starred in a recent Hartford Stage run of the musical, will headline the Broadway run of the new musical.
Directed by Tony winner Darko Tresnjak (A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder), the production reunites the Tony-winning team behind the Broadway musical Ragtime: book writer Terrence McNally and songwriters Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty. Ahrens and Flaherty penned the tunes for the 1997 animated film on which the stage musical is based. They have expanded their score for the theatrical production, which contains songs including "Once Upon a December" and "Journey to the Past." Altomare and Klena previously starred together in MCC Theater's 2012 revival of the musical Carrie.
The Anastasia creative team also includes Peggy Hickey (choreography), Alexander Dodge (set design), Linda Cho (costume design), Donald Holder (lighting design), Peter Hylenski (sound design), Aaron Rhyne (projection design), Charles LaPointe (hair/wig design), Thomas Murray (music supervision and direction), and Doug Besterman (orchestrations),
