Plays by Jeff Lewonczyk, James Comtois and Others Set for The Brick’s Democracy Theater Festival

The Brick Theater will extend its summer festival series with Democracy, which will take place June 1-July 1.

The Democracy festival will feature eight candidates competing through a series of performances for the title of President of The Brick and the opportunity to curate all programming for a two-week period. Public elections will be held at The Brick on June 1.

Among the competitors is Blue Coyote Theater Group presenting Matthew Freeman’s Confess Your Bubble, directed by Kyle Ancowitz and starring Steve Burns. Caravel 18 will present Dogs of Oklahoma, by Eric John Meyer and directed by Luke Harlan. Jeff Lewonczyk will direct his play The Hall of Virtual Presidents for Piper McKenzie. Jeremy Catterton will direct his Ignorance (Part 2 of the American Trilogy) for Lamb Lays With Lion. Patrice Miller will direct Chris Chappell, Justin R.G. Holcomb, Richard Lovejoy, and Alexis Sottile’s The Moose That Roared for Tux and Tom Productions.

The Brick will present No Second Acts: A Collection of Short American Lives by Gyda Arber, James Comtois, Justin Maxwell, Trav S.D., Alexis Sottile, Stephanie Swirsky, and Art Wallace. Alberto Bonilla will direct RINO by Zack Calhoon for Resonance Ensemble & Core Creative Productions. Finally, Roger Nasser will perform his One-Man Ten-Minute History of American Theater, directed by Melissa Roth.
