Patti LuPone to Perform The Seven Deadly Sins with NYC Ballet, Lynne Taylor-Corbett Choreographs

Patti LuPone will make her New York City Ballet debut in a new production of The Seven Deadly Sins, according to a report in The New York Times. Lynne Taylor-Corbett will choreograph the production that will be part of the company’s spring 2011 season.

The Seven Deadly Sins is a sung ballet in seven scenes, featuring music by Kurt Weill and a libretto by Bertolt Brecht. It was first performed in Paris and produced, directed and choreographed by George Balanchine. The ballet features a character portrayed by both a singer and dancer. LuPone will play the singer. Casting for the role of the dancer will be announced at a later date.

LuPone won Tonys for Evita and Gypsy. Her other Broadway credits include The Robber Bridegroom, Master Class, Anything Goes, The Old Neighborhood, and Sweeney Todd.

Taylor-Corbett has choreographed two previous works for New York City Ballet, “Mercury” in 1992 and “Chiaroscuro” in 1994. On Broadway, she directed and choreographed Swing!. Among her other Broadway credits are Titanic, Chess, and Shakespeare Cabaret.
