Lin-Manuel Miranda Wins ASCAP Foundation’s New Horizons Award

Lin-Manuel Miranda, the composer-lyricist and co-star of the upcoming Broadway musical In the Heights, was presented with the ASCAP Foundation’s Richard Rodgers New Horizons Award at its annual ceremony on December 12 at Jazz at Lincoln Center.

In the Heights, a portrait of the denizens of Manhattan’s Washington Heights neighborhood, played earlier this year at Off-Broadway’s 37 Arts Theater and begins previews at the Richard Rodgers Theatre on February 14. The show won the Outer Critics Circle Award for Best Off-Broadway Musical, among other honors.

Additional winners last night included rock singer John Mellencamp, who received the group’s Champion Award; Barry Kleinbort, who received the Jamie deRoy & friends Award;
and Sean Hartley, who won the Harold Arlen Musical Theater Award.
