To celebrate the 50th anniversary of Samuel Beckett’s groundbreaking play Waiting For Godot, PBS will air a new film adaptation of the work under the rubric of its “Stage on Screen” series. This is the second part of a Beckett tribute that began with Beckett on Film, shown on PBS this past September and featuring the American broadcast premieres of seven film adaptations of Beckett plays.

Hosted by actor Jeremy Irons, Stage on Screen: Waiting for Godot premieres on PBS at 9:30pm on Wednesday, January 1. (Different PBS affiliates may air the program at another date and time, so be sure to check local listings.) This production, directed by Michael Lindsay-Hogg, stars Barry McGovern, Johnny Murphy, Stephen Brennan, Alan Stafford, and Sam McGovern. The program will also include archival material and special documentary segments about Beckett’s life and career.
