Manhattan Theatre Club has announced complete casting for its Broadway production of Henrik Ibsen's An Enemy of the People, to play the Samuel J. Friedman Theatre, beginning September 4, with an opening on September 27. Doug Hughes will direct.

Four-time Tony Award winner Boyd Gaines and Emmy Award winner Richard Thomas will star as Dr. Thomas Stockmann and Mayor Peter Stockmann, respectively. The cast will also include Maïté Alina (Petra Stockmann), Gerry Bamman (Aslaksen), Kathleen McNenny (Catherine Stockmann), Randall Newsome (Horster), John Procaccino (Hovstad), Michael Siberry (Morton Kiil), and James Waterston (Billing).

The townspeople will be played by Mike Boland, Victoria Frings, Andrew Hovelson, John Robert Tillotson (also playing 'The Drunk'), and Ray Virta.

In the play, which will be seen in a new version by Rebecca Lenkiewicz, Dr. Thomas Stockmann discovers toxic contamination in the water used at the local baths, and expects to be hailed as a hero. But since the baths are the town's main source of revenue, the community fights to silence him... and Dr. Stockmann learns that there are forces more powerful than truth.

The creative team will includeJohn Lee Beatty (scenic design), Catherine Zuber (costume design), Ben Stanton (lighting design), David Van Tieghem (original music & sound design), J. David Brimmer (fight direction), and Tom Watson (hair & wig design).
