Patrick Page will play the title role in the musical adaptation of Dr. Seuss’ holiday tale How the Grinch Stole Christmas!, which will play Broadway’s Hilton Theater, October 25-January 7. The show, which will be helmed by Matt August, will open officially on November 8. Additional casting will be announced shortly.

The show has been a long-time holiday favorite at the Old Globe Theatre in San Diego, where it was directed by Tony Award winner Jack O’Brien. He will serve as the production creator and supervisor for the Broadway production. The show features book and lyrics by Timothy Mason and music by Mel Marvin; the creative team includes John DeLuca (choreography), John Lee Beatty (sets), Robert Morgan (costumes), Pat Collins (lighting), and Michael Curry (puppetry).

How the Grinch Stole Christmas!, which was first published in 1957, tells the story of a mean-spirited creature who literally steals the holiday from a cheerful group of townsfolk called the Whos. Nonetheless, they decide to celebrate Christmas, even inviting the Grinch to join the festivities. The book was turned into a much-loved animated TV special in 1996 and a big-budget big screen feature in 2000 starring Jim Carrey, Jeffrey Tambor, and Christine Baranski.

Page is currently starring as Scar in The Lion King. His other Broadway credits include Julius Caesar and Beauty and the Beast. He recently won the Helen Hayes Award for his performance as Iago in Othello. Page is married to actress and television personality Paige Davis.
