The Nance, Douglas Carter Beane’s new drama about the backstage life of a homosexual burlesque performer in 1930s New York City, has extended its run at Broadway’s Lyceum Theatre through August 11, Lincoln Center Theater has announced. Directed by three-time Tony Award winner Jack O’Brien and starring two-time Tony Award winner Nathan Lane in the title role, the production began previews on March 21 and officially opened on April 15.

Lane received a 2013 Tony nomination for his performance as Chauncey Miles, a headlining burlesque performer known for his onstage portrayal of effeminate “Nance” characters who must navigate a messy personal life offstage as a not-so-secret gay man in a world where it’s dangerous to be homosexual. The cast also features Tony Award winner Cady Huffman, Tony Award nominee Lewis J. Stadlen, Andréa Burns, Jenni Barber, and Jonny Orsini.

The production features sets by John Lee Beatty, costumes by Ann Roth, lighting by Japhy Weideman, sound by Leon Rothenberg, choreography by Joey Pizzi, and original music and arrangements by Glen Kelly.
