Downton Abbey Star Laura Carmichael to Join Ken Stott, Anna Friel in West End Uncle Vanya

Laura Carmichael, best known as Lady Edith Crawley on the hit series Downton Abbey, will join the previously announced Ken Stott, Anna Friel, and Samuel West in Lindsay Posner’s revival of Anton Chekhov’s Uncle Vanya. The production will run October 25-February 16 at London’s Vaudeville Theatre.

Carmichael will play Sonya to Stott’s Vanya, Friel’s Yelena, and West’s Astrov. The production will use Christopher Hampton’s adaptation and feature designs by Christopher Oram.

Carmichael’s stage credits include Plenty, The London Cuckolds, and As You Like It. Stott’s credits include A View from the Bridge and God of Carnage. Friel has been seen on stage in Breakfast at Tiffany’s and the Broadway production of Closer, for which she received a Drama Desk Award, as well as the television show Pushing Daisies. West’s many stage credits include the London production of Enron.
