 | | James Carpinello | The full cast and creative team has been set for the new Broadway musical Xanadu, which will begin previews at the Helen Hayes Theatre on May 23 and will open officially on June 26.
As previously announced, Christopher Ashley will direct and Dan Knechtges will choreograph Xanadu. Douglas Carter Beane has written the book for the musical, based on the film of the same title. The score, by John Farrar and Jeff Lynne, includes "Magic," "Xanadu," "Party All Over the World," and "I'm Alive."
The leading roles in the show will be played by Kerry Butler (Kira), James Carpinello (Sonny), Tony Roberts (Danny), Jackie Hoffman (Calliope), and Mary Testa (Melpomene). The ensemble will feature Curtis Holbrook, Anika Larsen, Kenita Miller, and Andre Ward.
The show will feature sets by David Gallo, costumes by David Zinn, lighting by Howell Binkley, sound design by T. Richard Fitzgerald and Carl Casella, projection design by Zachary Borovay, and musical direction by Eric Stern.
