Today marks the launch of Eclipsed's "10,000 Girls Campaign," which will bring young women from the tri-state area to see the new Broadway show. Eclipsed's Broadway performances begin February 23 at the John Golden Theatre, with an opening night set for March 6.

Through the initiative, girls 16 to 24 who would not otherwise have the opportunity to experience a Broadway show will be given tickets to see Eclipsed. Producers Stephen C. Byrd and Alia Jones-Harvey said of the program, "Theatre has the power to unleash dreams, ignite conversations, and inspire change. Through the '10,000 Girls Campaign,' we’re excited to share this empowering gift with young women."

Individuals or organizations can sponsor girls by making a tax-deductible donation through the Broadway Education Alliance.

Danai Gurira's Eclipsed is a look at the Liberian Civil War from the perspective of women held captive by a Liberian rebel officer. With the arrival of a new woman who can read, and the return of an old one who can kill, their possibilities are quickly transformed.

The play stars Academy Award winner Lupita Nyong'o, who will be joined by Pascale Armand, Akosua Busia, Zainab Jah, and Saycon Sengbloh, all of whom originated their roles when the show, directed by Obie Award winner Liesl Tommy, played a sold-out run at the Public Theater in the fall of 2015. Eclipsed marks the first time the cast, director, and playwright of a Broadway production are composed entirely of female artists.
