Broadway's Kinky Boots Will Welcome Toronto's Alan Mingo Jr.

Current star Wayne Brady followed on the heels of the show’s Tony-winning original star, Billy Porter.

Alan Mingo Jr. has been announced to take on the role of Lola in the Tony Award-winning musical Kinky Boots at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre, beginning March 29. Mingo, who comes to Broadway from the Toronto production of Kinky Boots, succeeds Emmy Award winner Wayne Brady in the role. Brady, who took over for Tony Award winner and original star Billy Porter in November, will play his final performance on March 27.

Inspired by the 2005 British film of the same title, Kinky Boots features a Tony-winning score by Cyndi Lauper and a book by Harvey Fierstein. The musical tells the story of Charlie Price, the owner of a failing shoe factory who realizes that a sassy drag queen named Lola has the key to the business' success.

Mingo's Broadway credits include Sebastian in Disney’s The Little Mermaid and Tom Collins in Rent.

The current Broadway cast of Kinky Boots also includes Andy Kelso, Jeanna de Waal, Daniel Stewart Sherman, Cortney Wolfson, Marcus Neville, Nick Rashad Burroughs, Pierce Cassedy, Sean Patrick Doyle, Kevin Smith Kirkwood, Fred Odgaard, Hernando Umana, Eugene Barry-Hill, Stephen Berger, Devin Trey Campbell, Mia Gentile, Gaelen Gilliland, Blair Goldberg, Natalie Joy Johnson, Jake Katzman, Ross Lekites, Eric Leviton, Ellyn Marie Marsh, John Jeffrey Martin, Graham Montgomery, Nathan Peck, Robert Pendilla, Jennifer Perry, Patricia Phillips, Stephen Tewksbury, Jeremy T. Villas, and Timothy Ware.
