Robin De Jesus, Ken Page, et al. Set for STC’s Two Gentlemen of Verona (a rock opera)

The Shakespeare Theatre Company has announced casting for its presentation of Two Gentlemen of Verona (a rock opera), to play Sidney Harman Hall, January 27-29. Amanda Dehnert will direct, with musical direction by George Fulginiti-Shakar and choreography by Spencer Liff.

Based on Shakespeare’s play of the same name, the musical was created by Galt MacDermot, John Guare and Mel Shapiro. The rock opera performances, part of the company’s Bard’s Broadway series, will run concurrent with STC’s mainstage production of The Two Gentlemen of Verona, which is being presented in the Lansburgh Theatre, January 17-March 4.

The show centers on the relationship between two friends, Proteus and Valentine, as they battle for the affections of the same woman.

The cast will feature Terence Archie (Valentine), Florrie Bagel (Lucetta), Robin De Jesus (Speed), Tom Deckman (Thurio), Eleasha Gamble (Silvia), Arielle Jacobs (Julia), Javier Muñoz (Proteus), Manu Narayan (Eglamour), Ken Page (Duke of Milan), and Danny Rutigliano (Launce).

The ensemble will include Carolyn Agan, Kellee Knighten Hough, Matthew John Kacergis, Kristian Lauren, Kevin S. McAllister, Katie McManus, Juan Carlos Sanchez, Chris Sizemore, and Bayla Whitten. Additional cast members will be announced at a later date.

The design team will feature James Noone (set), Tracy Christensen (costumes), Nancy Schertler (lighting), and David Budries (sound).
