GALA Hispanic Theatre Announces Casting for Nilo Cruz’s Ana en el trópico

GALA Hispanic Theatre has announced casting for Nilo Cruz’s Ana en el trópico , the Spanish language premiere of Anna in the Tropics which is set to run February 9-March 4. José Carrasquillo will direct.

Tranlated into Spanish by Cruz with Nacho Artime, Ana en el trópico is a play about dormant passions that are revived with the arrival of a lector at a 1920’s cigar factory in Ybor City, Florida, who acts as a catalyst amongst the workers. As the lector begins to read from Tolstoy’s Anna Karenina, forbidden passions are unleashed.

The cast will feature Oscar Ceville (Juan Julián), Verónica del Cerro (Conchita), Marian Licha (Ofelia), José Guzmán (Palomo and Eliades), Hugo Medrano (Santiago), Monalisa Arias (Marela), and Manolo Santalla (Cheché).

The design team will include Tony Cisek (set design), Andrew Dorman (lighting design), Ivania Stack (costume design), and Marie Schneggenburger (prop design).
