Mamie Gummer will make two appearances in Lady Dunmore Prepares for the Ball to be offered in Colonial Williamsburg on May 1. Gummer’s participation in the historical drama is part of a new artist-in-residence program at the historic site.

The piece, which unfolds over the course of an hour at various locations in Colonial Williamsburg, takes place in May 1774 and centers on the title character’s preparation for the official welcome ball held in her honor at the Capitol. Lady Dunmore was the wife of John Murray, the Fourth Earl of Dunmore. When Lord Dunmore was appointed Governor of Virginia in 1774, she joined her husband in America. Of all the notable arrivals in colonial Virginia, the most publicized and celebrated arrival was that of Lady Dunmore and her children.

Gummer’s stage credits include Dangerous Liaisons on Broadway and Mr. Marmalade, Hunting and Gathering and Uncle Vanya Off-Broadway.
