La Jolla Playhouse has announced casting for the new musical Little Miss Sunshine, to run February 15 – March 27 in the company’s Mandell Weiss Theatre. James Lapine, who has written the show’s book, will direct the production, which will feature musical staging by Christopher Gatelli and music direction by Vadim Feichtner.

The show, with music and lyrics by William Finn and based on the movie of the same name, focuses on a down-on-its-luck clan that believes its fortunes may have changed when its youngest member, Olive, enters a pre-teen beauty pageant.

The company will feature Hunter Foster (Richard Hoover) Malcolm Gets (Frank Ginsberg), Georgi James (Olive Hoover), Dick Latessa (Grandpa), Jennifer Laura Thompson (Sheryl Hoover), and Taylor Trensch (Dwayne Hoover), along with Bradley Dean, Carmen Ruby Floyd, Eliseo Roman, Andrew Samonsky, Sally Wilfert and Zakiya Young. The other young pageant hopefuls will be played by Felicity Bryant, Sophia Delange, Kishka Grantz and Madi Rae DiPietro.

The creative team will include David Korins (scenic design), Jennifer Caprio (costume design), Ken Billington (lighting design), Dan Moses Schreier (sound design), Michael Starobin (orchestrations), and William Aronson (music arrangements).
