Qui Nguyen's Vietgone Opens at Manhattan Theatre Club
The new play is directed by May Adrales.
Manhattan Theatre Club celebrated the opening of its New York premiere of Vietgone, a new play by Qui Nguyen (She Kills Monsters) on October 25. Directed by May Adrales, the work currently runs at New York City Center - Stage I.
Vietgone is described as "the classic story of boy meets girl — except this boy and girl are refugees from the Vietnam War newly settled in a relocation camp inside Middle America." Borrowing elements from the world of up-to-the-minute popular culture, the show re-creates the playwright's own parents' meeting.
Produced in association with South Coast Repertory, Vietgone was originally commissioned and developed by South Coast Repertory as part of SCR CrossRoads, with funding from the Time Warner Foundation.
The cast features Jon Hoche, Jennifer Ikeda, Raymond Lee, Samantha Quan, and Paco Tolson. The creative team for Vietgone includes Tim Mackabee (scenic design), Anthony Tran (costume design), Justin Townsend (lighting design), Shane Rettig (original music and sound design), and Jared Mezzocchi (projection design).
