The company will also present a reading of David Manis’s ”Pretending to Be Danish”, starring ”Waitress”’s Dakin Matthews.
The Acting Company will present two one-night-only salon readings of new works by Tom Fontana and David Manis at Theatre at St. Clement's.
First, on Monday, January 29, is Screenplay by Stalin, a new play by Tom Fontana, who is best known as the creator of TV's Oz. Zeljko Ivanek, Dean Winters, Lee Tergesen, and Leslie Fray will star in the reading, directed by Laura Savia. The work, according to a press release, "focuses on two screenwriters as it hilariously tackles the ever-relevant issue of censorship. Vasilij and Fyodor know they have an important job to do, and know they’ll be needing a lot of vodka to do it: for they have been given the not-so-easy task of creating a biographical screenplay that will flatter their employer and subject, Joseph Stalin."
Then, on Monday, February 12, comes David Manis's Pretending to Be Danish, an evening-length series of short plays that, according to a press release, asks, "What’s it like performing Shakespeare today?" Dakin Matthews (Waitress), Kaliswa Brewster, Liv Rooth, Robert Stanton, and more will be part of the cast. Richard Hamburger will direct.
