HBO will debut the film capture of Cole Escola’s hit Broadway comedy Oh, Mary! in 2027. An exact release date has not been announced.

Oh, Mary! is Escola’s dubious history play about Mary Todd Lincoln, who pines for the cabaret stage and drinks paint thinner as her husband presidents over a country at war with itself.

Escola debuted the play off-Broadway in early 2024 and it transferred to Broadway that summer. The following year, Escola won a Tony Award for their performance in the title role, with Sam Pinkleton also winning for his direction. It is still playing at Broadway’s Lyceum Theatre, with a sit-down production at London’s Trafalgar Theatre and a national tour.

Pinkleton oversaw the filming of Oh, Mary! during the July 28 performance in London. The cast includes Olivier Award winner Giles Terera as Mary’s Husband, Bianca Leigh as Mary’s Chaperone, Tony Macht as Mary’s Husband’s Assistant, and Emmy nominee Michael Urie as Mary’s Teacher. Escola reprised their Tony-winning performance as Mary, which HBO audiences will now be able to see for themselves.

“I’m so happy to share this show with a wider audience and spread Oh, Mary! awareness,” said Escola. “Knowing about Oh, Mary! is the first step in getting rid of it.”
