J2 Spotlight Musical Theater Company has announced three productions for its third season, which will take place April 13-May 21 at Theatre Row.

The season starts with Woman of the Year, which will play April 13-23. A Tony Award-winning adaptation of the classic film starring Spencer Tracy and Katherine Hepburn, Woman of the Year is about a very public feud between a TV reporter and a cartoonist. It features a score by John Kander and Fred Ebb (Cabaret), and a book by Peter Stone (1776).

The season continues with another book by Peter Stone, Sugar, which is a stage musical based on Some Like It Hot that played on Broadway from 1972-73 — fifty years before the current adaptation on Broadway. Featuring music by Jule Styne and lyrics by Bob Merrill (the team behind Funny Girl), it will run April 27-May 7.

Appropriately, the final show of the season is The Goodbye Girl (May 11-21). Based on the film starring Marsha Mason and Richard Dreyfus, it follows the unlikely romance between Paula, a single mother who has been jilted one too many times, and Eliot, the opinionated actor who shows up – unexpectedly – on her doorstep with a lease to sublet her apartment. It features a book by Neil Simon, music by Marvin Hamlisch, and lyrics by David Zippel.

Creative teams and casting for the 2023 season will be announced in the coming weeks.
