Wellfleet Harbor Actors Theater

The board of Wellfleet Harbor Actors Theater has voted to suspend operations beginning June 1, citing rising costs and fundraising challenges.

“This was an incredibly difficult decision for all of us involved,” said Producing Artistic Director Christopher Ostrom. “The regional theater model is built on a healthy balance of both contributed and ticketing income.  Since re-opening from the pandemic closure in 2021, we have faced steadily rising costs in an increasingly challenging philanthropic environment.  For WHAT, and many organizations across the country, this model has proven unsustainable.”

Ostrom added, “We are incredibly grateful for everyone who has joined us for a performance, made a contribution, or spent time with us in this remarkable space.  My hope is that this will be a brief intermission while we set the stage for our next act.”

The 42-year-old professional not-for-profit theater will still host the following events in April and May:

Autocrat Inc.
Written and Performed by Cody Sullivan
April 17 and 18

Cresta Alta
Film Screening presented by The Risan Project and The Truro Climate Action Committee
April 19

WHAT for Kids! Spring Vacation Camp
April 20 – 24

Second Act: Stories of Recovery and Resilience
May 3, 2026

Eugene Onegin
The Metropolitan Opera: Live in HD
May 9, 2026

El Último Sueño de Frida y Diego
The Metropolitan Opera: Live in HD
May 30, 2026
