Second Stage Theatre has announced casting for its upcoming Uptown production of Sofia Alvarez’s Friend Art. The new play begins performances May 17 in advance of a May 26 opening at the McGinn/Cazale Theatre.

The company will be headed by Tony nominee Constantine Maroulis (American Idol, Rock of Ages), alongside Zoe Chao, Aaron Costa Ganis, and Anabelle Lemieux.

Directed by Portia Krieger, the play follows Kevin and Molly, a thirtysomething couple who are about to get married. Their best friend Nate, meanwhile, just broke up with Lil, his much younger performance-artist girlfriend. The comedy explores what it means to support the art and decisions your friends make, regardless of what it does to those relationships.
