The musical [title of show] opened on Broadway last night, four years after being presented at the New York Musical Theatre Festival. Celebrating at the show’s after-party at Hudson Terrace were cast-creators Heidi Blickenstaff, Hunter Bell, Jeff Bowen, and Susan Blackwell.
Director Michael Berresse brought his mom along for the big occasion.
The show’s producer, Kevin McCollum, and his wife, actress Lynette Perry, were beaming on opening night.
Some show-biz stars who are prominently mentioned within the show attended the opening, including Tony Award winner Betty Buckley, who was joined by her director Richard Jay-Alexander.
Broadway veteran Mary Stout gets a big shout-out in the script.
John Cameron Mitchell’s presence was greatly appreciated by the cast.
A slew of theater folk also came out for the opening, including Steve Kazee, soon to return to Broadway in To Be or Not To Be and Megan Hilty, who plays Doralee in the Broadway-bound 9 to 5.
Ann Harada, the original Christmas Eve of Avenue Q, is another member of the 9 to 5 cast.
Fellow Q veteran Barrett Foa is a big [title of show] supporter.
Bob Martin, the writer and star of The Drowsy Chaperone, was a welcome guest.
Here’s Derek Keeling, who takes over the role of Danny Zuko in Broadway’s Grease on July 22.
Aaron Lazar, who’s playing Charles Darnay in the upcoming Broadway musical A Tale of Two Cities, was another first-nighter.
The fabulous S. Epatha Merkerson — a 2008 Tony nominee for Come Back, Little Sheba — will soon return to television for the 19th season of Law & Order.
