The hit West End production will come to New York City.
Tina, the new musical based on the life of legendary musician Tina Turner, will have its Broadway premiere in the fall of 2019, Stage Entertainment has announced. Additional information, including dates, casting, and theater, will be confirmed in the coming months.
Directed by Phyllida Lloyd and written by Katori Hall with Frank Ketelaar and Kees Prins, Tina explores the rise of musician Tina Turner, from her humble beginnings in Nutbush, Tennessee, to her transformation into the global Queen of Rock 'n' Roll. It premiered in April 2018 at the Aldwych Theater in London.
"Bringing this musical to life on stage and working with this team has meant so much to me, I feel that it is in many ways a culmination of my career," Turner said in a statement. "London audiences have been and continue to be extraordinary. Now, the bright lights of Broadway are calling, and I'm very excited to share this beautiful show with New York audiences next year."
The production will have choreography by Anthony van Laast, with set and costume designs by Mark Thompson, musical supervision, additional music and arrangements by Nicholas Skilbeck, lighting by Bruno Poet, sound by Nevin Steinberg, projection design by Jeff Sugg, and orchestrations by Ethan Popp.
Tina in London's West End currently stars Tony nominee Adrienne Warren (Shuffle Along) in the title role.
