Two-time Tony winner Chita Rivera lends her voice to another Broadway recording.
Broadway Records has announced the digital download release of The Visit, available exclusively in digital version on the Broadway Records website until July 10th, when it will be available worldwide in both digital and physical CD versions.
The Visit, starring two-time Tony Award winner Chita Rivera, opened at Broadway's Lyceum Theatre April 23 and ran for a total of 61 performances through June 14. The musical holds the final score written by the legendary writing team of John Kander and Fredd Ebb (Chicago, Cabaret). The recording is produced by the Emmy Award-winning and Grammy-nominated producer Michael Croiter.
The show received five Tony Award nominations, including Best Musical, Best Original Score, and a tenth career nomination for Rivera. It tells the story of Claire Zachanassian , the oft-widowed richest woman in the world. She returns to the hardship-stricken town of her birth, where the locals pray that her wealth will bring them a new lease on life, but the carefully plotted renewal she offers carries a dreadful price. The show is based on the 1956 play by Friedrich Dürrenmatt and features a book by Terrence McNally.
In addition to Rivera, the cast also featured Tony winner Roger Rees, Jason Danieley, Matthew Deming, Diana Dimarzio, David Garrison, Rick Holmes, Tom Nelis, Chris Newcomer, Aaron Ramey, Timothy Shew, Michelle Veintimilla, George Abud, Mary Beth Peil, Elena Shaddow, and John Riddle.
