The Play That Goes Wrong Creators Will Launch The Goes Wrong Show

The BBC has commissioned a six-part series, inspired by Mischief Theatre’s popular stage comedy.

According to a Variety report, the BBC has greenlit The Goes Wrong Show, a new series based on Mischief Theatre's long-running comedy The Play That Goes Wrong.

Each episode will be inspired by a well-known genre such as courtroom drama or spy thriller, and will be filmed in front of a live audience this March, in Manchester. Mischief Theatre members Henry Lewis, Jonathan Sayer, and Henry Shields will write and star in the six-part series.

Cowritten by Mischief Theatre company members Henry Lewis, Jonathan Sayer, and Henry Shields, The Play That Goes Wrong is a riotous comedy about the theater. The play introduces the "Cornley University Drama Society," who are attempting to put on a 1920s murder mystery. But as the title suggests, everything that can go wrong…does, as the accident-prone thespians battle on against all odds to get to their final curtain call.

The Play That Goes Wrong transferred from London's West End to Broadway in 2017, running for over 700 performances at the Lyceum Theatre. The play is now running off-Broadway at New World Stages.
