The special #Ham4Ham performance also featured Andra Day, Joell Ortiz, and others.
Broadway's Richard Rodgers Theatre, home of Lin-Manuel Miranda's Hamilton, hosted a special #Ham4Ham concert yesterday in celebration of today's release of the Hamilton Mixtape album. The event featured appearances and performances from artists who contributed to the album of songs inspired by the hit musical.
The concert's participants included Joell Ortiz and Blackthought, who performed their version of "My Shot"; Regina Spektor, who sang "Dear Theodosia"; Andra Day, lending her voice to "Burn"; and Ja Rule and Ashanti, dueting on "Helpless."
Directed by Thomas Kail and inspired by Ron Chernow's biography Alexander Hamilton, Hamilton explores the life of the American founding father and first Secretary of the Treasury, as well as his experiences as an orphan of the British West Indies who immigrated to the 13 Colonies and helped shape the United States of America. The show, which had its world premiere at the Public Theater, features a hip-hop score by Tony winner Lin-Manuel Miranda.
