Jez Butterworth's The Ferryman, newly nominated for nine Tony Awards including Best Play, has announced plans for a US National Tour in 2020-21.

The show's producers Sonia Friedman and Caro Newling have confirmed that discussions are underway for engagements in Boston; Charlotte, North Carolina; Chicago; Cleveland; Dallas; Hartford, Connecticut; Los Angeles; Minneapolis/St. Paul; San Francisco; Schenectady, New York; Seattle; Tampa, Florida; Toronto; and Washington, DC, among other markets. Discussions are additionally underway for an Australian production.

The Ferryman is set in rural Northern Ireland in 1981. The Carney farmhouse is a hive of activity with preparations for the annual harvest. A day of hard work on the land and a traditional night of feasting and celebrations lie ahead. But this year they will be interrupted by a visitor.

Directed by Sam Mendes, the 35-member cast is headed by three-time Tony nominee Brian d'Arcy James as Quinn Carney, Holley Fain as Caitlin Carney, Tony winner Shuler Hensley as Tom Kettle, and Emily Bergl as Mary Carney.

The Ferryman opened at London's Royal Court in May 2017 before transferring to the Gielgud, where it ended its thrice-extended, yearlong run on May 19, 2018. The production opened on Broadway on October 21, 2018, featuring original London stars Paddy Considine (Tony nomination), Laura Donnelly (Tony nomination), and Genevieve O'Reilly.
